DII - Ukraine has provided uninterrupted coverage across Eastern Ukraine despite the forced relocation of its newsroom in 2014 and 2022. One of the most prominent initiatives of DII-Ukraine is the Donbas Media Forum, an annual conference founded by the organization in 2015 that brings together media professionals to strengthen independent journalism, improve professional standards, and address challenges of covering conflict and reintegration in Ukraine.
Funding from the International Fund will support continued efforts to provide fact-based quality news coverage and analysis to communities vulnerable to disinformation and propaganda in the occupied regions of Eastern Ukraine and beyond, through their website and social media; and to increase the audience it reaches.

Hromadske Radio stands out in Ukraine as one of the country’s few independent, non-commercial, and non-governmental news and talk radio stations, offering a vital source of information through its broadcasts, website, social media, and mobile application. Despite significant challenges, including the loss of eight transmitters in 2022 due to the illegal annexation of parts of Ukraine by Russia, the station continues to broadcast 24/7, including from frontline regions. The station's unique position in war-torn regions, where the destruction of the power grid often limits access to information, makes its work essential. In addition to its FM broadcasts, Hromadske Radio has seen significant growth on social media since the outbreak of war (for example, its YouTube audience has surged by over 600%). As a result, Hromadske Radio is looking to further expand its audience, particularly focusing on online engagement and reaching younger audiences.
