Governance Structure

The model

The International Fund’s governance model rests on three bodies: A Council, Board and Secretariat.

This unique governance structure is the cornerstone of the International Fund’s innovative model of effective multilateralism. It retains the independence, flexibility and ability to take on the strategic risk required to finance media outlets and develop structural solutions in contexts where the need is greatest.

The governance structure safeguards public donors from any perception that they are interfering in the media markets of other countries. It shields recipient media organizations from accusations that their editorial integrity has been compromised. And it maximizes the ability of all stakeholders to participate in deploying a multilateral response to this crisis, providing a fresh solution to sustain independent journalism as well as a model for a new, public–private, Global North–Global South partnership that is essential to addressing increasingly complex global challenges.
