Press Releases
The event, held on 29 May, was organised in collaboration with the Argentine Association of Newspaper Publishers (ADEPA), the Argentine fact-checking organization Chequeado, and the Institut français d’Argentine.
"The motivation to organise this event stems from our strong interest and concern regarding the impact of disinformation on the media and on journalism, particularly in the age of artificial intelligence,” said Vanina Berghella, IFPIM’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean in opening remarks. “Our purpose here today is to examine how these new technologies also affect our democracies and the lives of societies in general. Your presence as ambassadors and high-ranking representatives reflects the importance of this forum for exchange; It also shows the value of international collaboration, commitment, and joint efforts in addressing the challenges that free and independent journalism faces, in Argentina, across the region, and beyond."

Moderated by Ms Berghella, the first panel discussion benefited from the participation by H.E. Romain Nadal, the Ambassador of France to Argentina; H.E. Julio Glinternick Bitelli, the Ambassador of Brazil, and H.E. Diego Ignacio Canepa Baccino, Ambassador of Uruguay. They exchanged global perspectives on public policies related to artificial intelligence and combating disinformation,, as well as their respective regional and local points of view on public policies related to AI, challenges to media sustainability, and the impact of disinformation on contemporary democracies.

A second panel discussion was moderated by Pablo M. Fernández, the International Fund’s Regional Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, who guided a discussion with panelists Andrés D'Alessandro, Executive Director of ADEPA, and Olivia Sohr, Director of Impact and New Initiatives at Chequeado. The speakers shared experiences and reflections on the challenges faced by media outlets and organizations working for information integrity in a context marked by technological acceleration, and the expansion of artificial intelligence tools.
The event was held as part of the "Informed Community" project with the support of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), which seeks to strengthen information sustainability and promote more reliable information ecosystems in the region.
