Megaphone

Megaphone is an independent online media platform based in Beirut, launched in 2017. Initially volunteer-led, the platform features over 30 contributors focused on producing critical and fresh news content. Megaphone is an established actor within Lebanon’s alternative media landscape, highlighting stories overlooked by mainstream media. It emphasises the voices of marginalised groups often discriminated against by gender, nationality, belief, class, sexuality, or social status. Megaphone has received funding to expand its freelancer pool, refine its social media strategy, and develop new formats to grow its audience, as well as to conduct audience research in Syria, Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt to inform possible future work in those countries.
