Jornal A Hora LTDA is the main news provider in Vale do Taquari, a region with a population of 350,000 inthe southernmost state of Brazil. It produces two newspapers (including the only daily and the oldest weekly with uninterrupted circulation) and a radio station. Its mission is to provide responsible journalism in support of human rights and democracy. In May 2024, 12 of the 40 municipalities in Vale do Taquari were devastated by a historical flood that left more than 180 dead. A Hora served as a civil defense during the catastrophe, often the only mode of communication between government agencies and residents in need of support. A Hora plans to become one of the three major media groups in the state, including through expanding its geographic scope.
