Trinna Leong

Trinna is a former journalist with a decade of experience covering major news events, including the Malaysia Airlines MH370 and MH17 air disasters, Myanmar’s Rohingya refugee crises, the multibillion dollar 1MDB financial scandal, the assassination of North Korean Kim Jeong-nam, and numerous elections.
She was Google News Initiative’s first Southeast Asia News Lab Fellow, conducting newsroom training for over 22,000 journalists and students in two years. While at Google, Trinna also designed the Youth Verification Challenge, which gamified fact-checking for Gen-Z users and ran in eigh Asian languages, reaching over 6,000 young people. She is a co-founder of JomCheck, Malaysia's first fact-checking alliance focused on collaborative fact-checking.
As Grants and Partnerships Manager for the Fund, Trinna focuses on building a sustainable and healthy information landscape in local markets across Asia Pacific through strategic partnerships, business development and grantmaking. She holds a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
