James Deane

James Deane is the co-founder of the International Fund for Public Interest Media and co-led its early development. He now acts as a Senior Adviser. James has more than 40 years experience in supporting independent media around the world. He has been Director of Policy and Research at BBC Media Action, the BBC's international development charity where he first proposed the creation of a new international media support fund.
He was a founding member and Executive Director of the Panos Institute, another media support organisation among other roles. He sits on the Advisory Council of Wilton Park, an executive agency and conference convenor of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office providing a global forum for strategic discussion and is on the board of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
