La Conférence internationale de haut-niveau pour l’intégrité de l’information et les médias indépendants réunira les dirigeants mondiaux dans le cadre du Forum de Paris sur la paix 2025

« Nous vous donnons rendez-vous au Forum de Paris pour la Paix, les 29 et 30 octobre prochain. A cette occasion, la France accueillera la Conférence internationale sur l'intégrité de l'information, organisée par le Fonds international pour les médias d'intérêt public et le Forum pour l'information et la démocratie. Elle réunira une coalition internationale d'États et d'acteurs engagés en faveur d'un espace d'information réglementé et sain qui favorise la paix », a déclaré Anne-Marie Descôtes, secrétaire générale du MEAE, lors de l'annonce de la conférence à un événement ministériel sur la guerre informationnelle, la lutte contre la désinformation et le soutien au médias indépendants.

Le Ghana, soutien de longue date du Fonds international, sera également un promoteur de la Conférence, et S.E. le Président de la République Mahama prononcera un discours d'ouverture. Au cours des deux journées de la conférence, des représentants de gouvernements, de fondations et du secteur privé se réuniront dans le but de renforcer et élargir la coalition mondiale pour la défense d’une information libre et fiable, et lui donner les moyens de ses ambitions, politiquement et financièrement. La Conférence permettra de faire converger les efforts existants, notamment autour du cadre du Partenariat pour l'information et la démocratie, un cadre de coopération multilatérale animé par le FID dans lequel 56 États signataires du Partenariat ont développé un ensemble de principes et d'actions visant à protéger le droit à la liberté d'opinion et d'expression, ainsi que la liberté des médias.

La conférence aura également pour objectif de doter le bras financier de la coalition, le Fonds internationale pour les médias d’intérêt publique, des ressources financières nécessaires pour répondre aux chocs économiques qui menacent l'existence des médias indépendants, et pour rivaliser avec les moyens déployés par les régimes autoritaires pour manipuler l’information. La conférence constituera une étape importante vers l'objectif du Fonds de mobiliser 130 millions d'euros pour soutenir les médias indépendants au cours des trois prochaines années. Ces ressources seront utilisées pour augmenter de manière significative les subventions accordées aux médias indépendants, indispensables à la santé des écosystèmes de l'information, et pour financer l'innovation à l'échelle de l'écosystème médiatique afin de favoriser de nouveaux modèles financiers pour le journalisme indépendant.

« Protéger l'intégrité et la fiabilité de l'information est un élément central de la défense et de la protection des sociétés ouvertes et de la démocratie », a déclaré Pierrick Judeaux, directeur des politiques et des écosystèmes du Fonds international, saluant l'annonce du secrétaire général de la MEAE. « Les médias indépendants sont la première ligne de défense contre la désinformation et les manipulations de l’information. Assurer leur survie et leur résilience est un enjeu  de sécurité essentiel pour tous les pays qui cherchent à protéger leurs démocraties et la stabilité mondiale. Cette conférence réunira des pays et des organisations de tous les continents afin de construire cette défense commune. »

High-level International Conference on Information Integrity and Independent Media Announced to Convene Global Leaders at the 2025 Paris Peace Forum

16 September, Paris: Announced last week, a high-level international conference organised by the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) and the Forum for Information and Democracy (FID), two initiatives championed by French President Macron and supported by the French government, will bring together a broad coalition of states and actors from civil society and the private sector, committed to defending free and reliable information. The conference will take place on  29 and 30 October and will be held as part of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum (PPF).

"We look forward to seeing you at the Paris Peace Forum on 29 and 30 October,’ said Anne-Marie Descôtes, Secretary General of the MEAE, announcing the event. ‘On this occasion, France will welcome the International Conference on Information Integrity, organised by the International Fund for Public Interest Media and the Forum for Information and Democracy. It will bring together an international coalition of states and actors committed to a regulated and healthy information space that promotes peace,’ she said, speaking to a ministerial event on information warfare, the fight against disinformation and support for independent media.

Ghana, a long time supporter of the International Fund, will also champion the Conference, and H.E. President Mahama will deliver opening remarks. During the two days of the conference, representatives from governments, foundations and the private sector will come together with the aim of strengthening and expanding the global coalition for free and reliable information, and providing it with the political and financial means to achieve its ambitions. The Conference will consolidate existing efforts, particularly around the framework of the Partnership for Information and Democracy, a multilateral cooperation mechanism led by the FID in which 56 signatory states to the Partnership have developed a set of principles and actions aimed at protecting the right to freedom of opinion and expression, as well as media freedom.

The conference will also aim to provide the coalition's financial arm, the International Fund for Public Interest Media, with the financial resources necessary to respond to the economic shocks threatening the existence of independent media, and to compete with the means deployed by authoritarian regimes to manipulate information. The conference will be a significant step towards the Fund's goal of raising €130 million to support independent media over the next three years. These resources will be used to significantly increase grants to independent media, which are essential to the health of information ecosystems, and to fund innovation across the media ecosystem that will foster new financial models for independent journalism.
