South Africa Media Innovation Programme

Launched in 2017 by the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), the South Africa Media Innovation Program (SAMIP) is a multi-year initiative aimed at accelerating digital innovation and sustainability among independent media outlets in South Africa.The program provides a combination of financing—through grants and equity investments—and capacity-building support to selected media organizations, non-profits, and startups.​
SAMIP focuses on fostering innovation in news collection, reporting, and distribution by embracing technological advancements.It encourages the development of new revenue models to enhance financial independence and supports efforts to reach underserved communities, including those in rural areas and speakers of underrepresented languages.
