Matangi Tonga is the most widely read news website in the Kingdom of Tonga. Once a print magazine when it first started in 1986, it transitioned to fully online in 2004 when it lost its print license due to a restrictive press law. Matangi has since built a small business model and a presence from its news site. The International Fund's grant would allow Matangi to craft a strategic plan that focuses on its digital strategy, leveraging its extensive archive of Tonga's history and also build sustainability in a small market with limited resource and talent.
